The pilot reported that during a go-around, the right-wing leading-edge slat retracted to the stowed position, and the airplane rolled to the right. The pilot attempted to correct with opposite aileron; however, the airplane continued the right roll and impacted the ground. The airplane sustained substantial damage to both wings, fuselage, and the empennage. According to the airplane kit manufacturer, the wing leading-edge slats are self-deploying and self-stowing. The pilot reported no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
Quoted verbatim from the NTSB record.
