On March 31, 2017, about 1745 coordinated universal time (1445 local time), a Piper PA-42, Brazilian registration PP-EPB, operated by a private individual, was destroyed after it impacted the ground while on approach to Barra Do Garcas Airport (SBBW), Sorocaba, Brazil. The pilot and passenger were fatally injured. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Brazil.
