On February 14, 2013, about 1310 coordinated universal time (UTC), a Piper PA-36-300, Ecuadorian registration HC-BJM, operated by CIA FAP S.A., was substantially damaged when it impacted the ground during an aerial application flight. The Ecuadorian pilot was the sole occupant and was fatally injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the aerial application flight conducted under Ecuadorian flight regulations. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the government of Ecuador.
