WHILE SETTING UP FOR A SWATH RUN THE PILOT STRUCK THE GROUND IN A WINGS LEVEL DESCENT. HE STATED THAT A 'WHIRLWIND' OR 'DOWNDRAFT' PREVENTED HIM FROM PULLING UP IN TIME TO PRE-VENT IMPACT WITH THE GROUND.
